Philotimo Executive Sessions
Through collaboration with Jim and the monthly Philotimo group, I’ve developed into a more confident leader, dedicated to empowering and supporting our team within our collaborative working culture. Participating in this group allows me to share insights and learn from fellow nonprofit CEOs, providing valuable perspectives and mutual support in our leadership roles. It’s reassuring to know that we're not alone in shouldering the responsibilities of leading our organizations. Moreover, these sessions foster a sense of community among us as leaders, facilitating collaboration through grant opportunities, staffing resources, vendor referrals, and access to professional development. Jim's inclusion of expert guest speakers enriches our knowledge of nonprofit industry best practices, further enhancing our skills. Jim's prompt sharing of recommended solutions has been instrumental in boosting my confidence. Observing his ability to grasp the bigger picture swiftly and propose effective solutions has greatly influenced my leadership approach, which I now apply daily, furthering my commitment to continual growth and development.

Boys to Men Mentoring
Floros & Associates really meets each client on their own personal level to make the working experience with all in the Philotimo Executive Sessons as meaningful as possible. However, it is the mentoring with Jim Floros that I have personally found the most useful to my career as a young Executive Director. Jim quickly makes you feel comfortable with all questions, tasks, and advice that you may sit down to dissect with him. In addition to our monthly one-on-one sessions, I know I can call or text at any time with either a singular question or a total debrief of the unique days that come only in the nonprofit world. It is often a big and heavy weight on our shoulders and Jim does everything he can to help carry that weight and most times lighten it immensely. In the past I have referred to others as a mentor when I truly did not know what a mentor was until I started working with Jim. These past couple years I have found in him an ally, friend, and most importantly a confidant that I will look to for the rest of my career and more.

I look forward to the Philotimo Nonprofit Executive Sessions every month. It’s an awesome group of nonprofit leaders representing organizations with a diverse range of focus, size, and longevity in the community. Of course, we share best practices and help each other solve some of the unique challenges we face as nonprofit CEOs, but there is also space to celebrate wins, process losses, and get to know each other as individuals beyond our professional identities. Not to mention, Jim is a fun guy to be around and a great storyteller, and the experience and expertise he brings to the discussion is second to none. As a mentor and coach, I appreciate his honest and direct feedback, his vast network, and his deep understanding of how challenging it can be to lead a nonprofit. I entered the nonprofit space when I founded +BOX in 2020 so Jim’s mentorship has been invaluable to the progress we’ve made over the last few years.

Working with Floros & Associates the past year has not just been a career-changer, but a life-changer as well for me as a nonprofit leader and particularly in my new role as the President & CEO of the San Diego Parks Foundation. Navigating the nonprofit world as a new CEO can be at times a bit challenging, but having a seasoned coach leading the Philotimo Leadership Sessions, with the hands-on, battle-tested experience, surrounded by a team of San Diego's finest executives and one-on-one mentoring that has been instrumental in my success to date. Most importantly, the leadership and guidance of Jim and Cheryl directly impact our mission as a nonprofit serving our community, as we tackle San Diego's issues and challenges as a team who truly have a deep love for San Diego and commitment to helping others.
